Baking Club

During höst lov we baked monster dentures!! We were inspired by The Girl Who Ate Everything Blog with their awesome vampire teeth. We made some adjustments though, such as using mini meringue as teeth instead of marshmallows and as we made monster teeth there was no need for the almond slivers (we also have students with nut allergies).

To recreate our monster teeth, you will need cookies (we baked some earlier that day using this recipe), red food colouring, icing, and mini meringue toppings (often found near the ice cream).

Mix icing with red food colouring until you are happy with the colour.
Cut cookies in half, to be the upper and lower jaws.
Spread icing on both halves of the cookie.
Carefully line up mini meringues along the circular side of one half of the cookie.
Put the other iced cookie half on top of the teeth.
Voila! You have a set of monster dentures!

Höst Lov Pumpkin Carving

On Wednesday we carved pumpkins into Jack-o-lanterns! We started with four pumpkins and students split themselves up into groups based upon which pumpkin they wanted to carve. They carefully used special knives to cut a lid and took out the gross, gooey guts. Afterwards they were able to plan together what the face should look like.

Höst Lov Adventures

We gave students two choices on Tuesday, to participate in a soccer tournament or to go on an outdoor adventure.

Matte and Musse planned the tournament and invited two other schools to participate with us. Teams were mixed ages and schools. It took place in our local sport hall and we had 84 students in total!

Those of us who went on the outdoor adventure, walked along Edsvik Lake to a secret beach that Samuel knew about.

After lunch, we went into the forest and found a sunny spot on top of a rock to explore. Before leaving we played sardines, which is like the opposite of hide-n-seek and just as fun.

Week 44 is höstlov folks! Please take note that we will have one outing on Tuesday, November 1 so packed lunches are required and appropriate clothing as we will be outside. November 5 is a red day so fritids will close at 4pm the Friday before.

F-klass this year has done a wonderful job together with Elias and Ed. For Halloween they've made Halloween paper mache masks and went to the Forest to film this amazing and SCARY video. Enjoy their awesome work!!

And the video below is just SO CUTE!!!! The interaction of Fritids and digital learning on its best here. I hope you enjoy it as much as we did! :-)

Day 5

Our last day, was a movie day. As usual we had our Cinema tickets and popcorn! Fun, fun, fun!

Day 4

Of course this is our most expected day! The day we all come in costumes and go on a scary Ghost walk. The monsters below were around our school playing some tricks on us. I guess we need "Super Rådan's" help. :-)

The kids had to line up for their turn to go in the very dark and scary room. Some of them, wouldn't dare!! Would you?

After the ghost walk, we had a nice Halloween disco to relax and end the day with a more carefree activity.

Day 3

On Wednesday we found out that we have a super hero at school that helps us every Halloween against the bad monsters. So please be introduced to "Super Rådan"!

We will try to follow a little bit more about his work during this year.

During this day, besides having nice outdoor activities, we had also our last baking lesson. To end this week's baking we made a masterpiece! A completely edible cemetary.

The ground is a swedish "Kladkaka", some chocolate powder over it as soil, cemetary fences made of "salta pinnar" and marshmallows. Franksteins made of cake pops, ghosts made of marshmallows and Rice Krispies' pumpkins (like the ones we made on Monday). A gravestone made with a normal "kex" with "R.I.P. Diet" on it and voilá!! And belive it or not, it was DELICIOUS!

Let's not forget about all the different types of "Mellis" that we've had during this week. Amazing ideas that made our snack time a little bit more funny!

Day 2 - Skansen or Baking?

On Tuesday our kids had the option to go to Skansen or to stay at school and bake.

The majority went to Skansen. There they went around to check the animals and they could also visit a Fortune teller that was there especially for Höstlov. Would you like to know your future? ;-)

The ones that stayed here could do some more arts and crafts and of course do some baking. This time we learned how to bake zombie eyeballs cake pops. Yummy!

Day 1 - Halloween decorations and Baking

On our day 1 of autumn break (Höstlov) we had a very good time decorating the school for the scary week that was about to come.

It involved a lot of Arts and Crafts and some amazing drawing lessons given by Ed!

We had also our first baking lesson. This time children learned how to make Rice Krispies halloween pumpkins. Look how cute they turned out! >

3 tablespoons melted margarine

6 cups krispie crispy rice cereal

10 ounces miniature marshmallows

green candy

orange food coloring

DIRECTIONS

Melt margarine in large microwave safe bowl. Add marshmallows, and heat again in microwave until soft and fluffy. Put in a few drops of food coloring to achieve desired color. Stir in cereal and mix well. Using lightly greased hands, shape into small handful sized balls. Place onto pan lined with baking paper and put candy piece in the top for a stem. Pumpkins aren't generally perfectly round, so it makes this a very kid friendly recipe.

Höstlovet - Day 5

The last Autumn break day, as we say in Sweden, it was a "mysig" day! :-)

A day to calm down and relax before the weekend. Our School Cinema had two scary films in the program. Our children got their own tickets and popcorn/juice combo.
